An experimental lab for emerging AI, infrastructure, agentic systems, and new ways of building software.

R&D exists before the business case is obvious. It is where new capabilities get pushed against real problems: faster inferenceB-02, unusual hardwareB-04, multimodal interfaces, autonomous workflowsB-03, new data architectures, and software that changes what a single team can accomplish.

Six capabilities named. Three have a bench on this page.

Five benches

Each bench pairs one question with one instrument. Every instrument says where its numbers come from.

B-01

New capabilities

Instrument · threshold readoutData · none

The interesting question is not whether a new model is better on a benchmark. It is what becomes economically possible when the capability becomes cheap, fast, reliable, or easy enough to integrate into ordinary business software.

Any one threshold can be enough. The bench asks which one a capability has crossed.

B-02

Faster inference

Instrument · check counterData · arithmetic

When models respond faster and cost less, interaction design changes. Systems can check more often, personalize more deeply, and move closer to real-time operational decision-making.

Model response time
30checks per minute

One check per response, run one after another: 60 ÷ response time. Arithmetic, not a benchmark. Batching and parallel calls would raise every number.

B-03

Agents with boundaries

Instrument · authority envelopeData · example actions

Agentic workflows need useful constraints: defined permissions, tool access, state, approval gates, logs, and clear failure handling. Autonomy becomes practical when the system knows exactly where its authority ends.

Defined permissions
the three zones
Tool access
which actions exist
State
where a run stopped
Approval gates
the middle zone
Logs
every action
Failure handling
what happens at the edge

Example actions · press one to run it

Never · refused and logged
Asks first · approval gate
Acts alone · within permissions

Hardware and economics

Instrument · cost stripData · illustrative

Specialized inference hardware can alter the cost curve of AI applications. R&D tracks these shifts not as a hardware hobby, but because infrastructure economics determine which software ideas are commercially viable.

IdeaGeneral-purposeSpecialized

Each bar starts at the cost per task where the idea begins to pay for itself and runs toward cheaper. A cost line that crosses a bar makes that idea viable. Illustrative: the 10× shift and every position are chosen for the drawing, not measured.

B-05

From experiment to architecture

Instrument · graduation lineData · the lab’s own rule

The lab is successful when a weird idea produces a concrete design. A prototype can graduate into an engineering project, a product hypothesis, or a clear decision to wait for the technology to mature.

Explore at the edge. Productize what survives reality.
